This summer, the Miss Earth United States (MEUS) Organization announced that their official charitable partnership would dedicate funding to World Missions Outreach (WMO), a non-profit program founded in North Carolina. WMO operates a school located on 100 acres in Nicaragua.

Charitable fundraising by the 2016 state delegates made it possible for the organization to present a $1,200 gift to sponsor one of the school children, a second grader named Aline. The top fundraiser was Brandy Jarvis of Mississippi. Other leading fundraisers in their divisions were Kallie Brewster, Sarah Levandowski and Madison Pallanez.

In March 2017, nearly 30 delegates, including 2016 Miss Earth United States Corrin Stellakis, will dedicate a week of service on the WMO property in Nicaragua. They will experience the native environment, tending to fruit trees, beans and plantains, serving meals to the children. They will learn about the property's sustainability including solar power panels, and they will spend time with the children discussing environmental responsibility.

In addition to this mission trip, the organization encourages their national and state titleholders to conduct small acts of impact in their communities, such as reading books at schools, planting trees, and cleaning up parks and beaches.

The national organization facilitates volunteer work with other important agencies including The Climate Reality Project, National Park Service and Green Education Foundation.

Founded in the year 2000 by Carousel Productions of the Philippines, Miss Earth focuses on empowering women through fashion, leadership, travel and service opportunities. Delegates advocate for environmental awareness and protection of the Earth while showcasing various tourist destinations.

In October, Katherine Espin of Ecuador was crowned the 16th Annual Miss Earth in the Philippines. USA's Stellakis placed in the Top 8. 85 nations participated in the four-week international competition.

The 2017 Miss Earth United States pageant will take place in Washington, DC from August 2-6, including four divisions for young women ages 12-34. Interested candidates may find their state pageant or submit an application at www.missearthunitedstates.com.
